Adam lost 33 pounds in 6 months
and became the fastest guy in his running group with Reveri.
Adam went to a party recently with some friends. He returned home and later checked out some of the photos that were posted of that night. He was intrigued by a person in the photos who was wearing the same shirt he was wearing, but didn’t recognize. As he looked closer, he realized that it wasn’t somebody else, it was him.
“It took a little bit of time to come to this realization and not be in denial. I started reading about eating well. I read a lot of books! Unfortunately reading those books — knowing the information — was not enough to implement what now I knew. I needed something else to help me apply what I had just learned.”
Tell us about the challenge you wanted to overcome.
“After two years of covid, I had gained a lot of weight. But I didn’t pay attention to it. My kids weren’t joking when they told me I was obese. They had been teasing me for a while... I had been ignoring it. I was in denial, essentially. I just happened to go to a party, someone took pictures, and after the party I looked at the pictures that were posted, and I noticed there was a guy who had a same shirt that I’d been wearing. So I thought, ‘this is interesting, I don’t remember seeing anyone with the same shirt’ (it was a unique shirt). And as I looked closer at the picture, I realized that was not somebody else. That was actually me.”
How did Reveri empower you to address this issue?
“I was originally very hesitant and skeptical about hypnosis, because to me, it was synonymous with a lack of control. But then Dr. Spiegel explained it was not a lack of control, it was a BETTER control.”
“Poor eating is kind of like an addiction. Clearly I had to address this the same way I would address any other sickness. So when I read about the Reveri app, I realized that I needed it.”
Many believe that the attainment of knowledge is power. When misinformation is abundant among us and there are numerous ways of seeking out knowledge, it isn’t in its attainment where power lies but in how we harness that information to create change.
“There was a missing piece of the puzzle, because I had already figured out the science of eating well, but I was not able to convince myself of how to implement those changes.”
After applying what you have learned from Reveri, how have things changed?
In the last six months with Reveri, Adam learned to discern between a feeling of physical hunger and emotional hunger. Once he determines it’s a physical hunger, he now decides to eat something healthy. Seeing that photo of himself that he didn’t recognize helped him visualize treating his body like he would treat a small child, as Dr. Spiegel suggests. “Why would I hurt a child?” Adam said. Using Reveri shifted his perspective to identify junk food as a “landmine” so as to protect his body from harm.
After Adam got in the habit of eating well, he said it was a no-brainer to get into exercising. When we begin taking greater responsibility it only seems natural to do the next best thing for ourselves within the situation. For Adam, that was exercise.
“Exercise becomes obvious. A lot of what I used to think was backwards. I didn’t realize I didn’t exercise because I was eating the wrong food. I used to be the guy that would circle the parking lot in my car for 10 minutes waiting for the ‘perfect’ spot right next to the door to clear, not willing to walk 50 feet. Now I don’t even drive anymore, I walk everywhere! Because I need to exercise. The food I now eat gives me a tremendous amount of energy and an urge to exercise, which I didn’t have before.”
The small decisions we make each day can have a large impact on parts of our lives we never gave a second thought. Small choices around how we treat ourselves can compound into big changes. Like the satisfaction gained from more energy, improving your mental health, feeling confident as you are doing the right things to increase your health span, and fend off age-related diseases, all thanks to a new lifestyle.
“I’m at an age where, if I don’t take care of my body, no one else is going to do it for me. I want to be healthy until I go. Although our collective lifespan has increased, our health span generally has not.”
What piece of advice would you give to someone who may be in the position you were?
“Information is not knowledge,”
Making comparisons in life, Adam noted that, “Information is overwhelming. You go on the internet and your head will spin. Find people you feel you trust and who can curate the information you’re gonna get.”
“Don’t expect a magic pill that’s going to get rid of your diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, et cetera.”
“Forget the wars between the vegans and all the different kinds of diets. We’re all on the same side!”
“It’s hard to believe. I had zero control 6 months ago. If I walked past a pastry or candy I would have to grab it.”
“If you learn about the body, the science behind eating healthier, then use Reveri to help you implement it, you’re golden.”
