Adam built a successful sleep routine
after years of sleepless nights.
The irregularities of the early 2020s have affected everyone to some degree, with a few groups having experienced outsized impact. Adam is a 5th grade teacher with two young kids of his own, putting him right in a crossfire of stressors over the last few years.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, they’ve been fueling his sleep tribulations.
His thoughts kept him up at night for years. Tossing and turning, worrying about not performing in the daytime, stressing about interacting with his children the next day because he wasn’t able to get a good night’s sleep, he turned to over-the-counter sleep aids. But he knew this wasn’t a sustainable solution, and he wanted to stop using them.
Getting rid of sleep aids threw things further out of his control. He had so much trouble falling and staying asleep that he was ready to try anything healthy — as long as it actually worked.
When listening to podcasts by Joe Rogan and Andrew Huberman to educate himself about sleep, Adam discovered Reveri. He jumped on the opportunity to try it, despite having no prior experience with hypnosis and believing it to be a “parlor trick.” However, the credibility of Dr. Huberman and Dr. Spiegel helped him open his mind to it.
Adam created a Reveri account, laid in bed, and eagerly played the Improve Sleep exercise, ready to fall asleep quickly and easily. “1, do one thing… 2, do two things… 3, do three things…” Dr. Spiegel’s voice guided him.
And… it didn’t work! Another sleepless night.
The next night, it was the same. It didn’t work the third night either. Nor fourth, nor the twelfth.
Why did you stick with Reveri even though it didn’t work at first?
“I’m pretty strong in my convictions that anything you need to do well is going to take some time, so I gave it time. I can’t pinpoint how long it took to start to see results, but eventually, I found those results.”
Adam teaches kids around ages 10-11 years old how to build successful habits. He’s a strong believer in routine, and he had to put himself to the test when it came to his sleep. He wanted to build a successful sleep routine, and he believed if he put in the reps, he would start to see the benefits of it.
And that’s exactly what happened! Adam joined Reveri in 2021, and still uses it regularly in early 2023. Reveri Analytics tell him he completed the Improve Sleep exercise 200+ nights in 2022, and he continues to fall asleep quickly, sleep through the night, and wake up refreshed.
“For someone who’s had so much trouble sleeping, it’s amazing to see it has worked so well.”
How has your journey changed since you started using Reveri a year and a half ago?
“The Interactive version was really useful at first. That’s the one I started with. There are times I can recall falling asleep and waking back up, and having to go back through the Interactive exercise again through the night. Now I just sleep through the night and don’t have to do that. And now I do the Listening mode, as it works better for me right now,” Adam tells us.
“I’ve memorized the Improve Sleep script, so I can take myself through it in my head if I choose to not play the exercise. Sometimes I don’t listen to it, to not disturb my fiancee.”
Why do you keep using Reveri after all this time with the same exercise?
“Even though I could memorize the exercise and do it in my head, I still use Reveri more often than not. Again, I teach successful habits for a living. Whether that habit is the same thing every day, or you deviate a little bit, the outcome is what matters. It’s a matter of falling asleep every night. After doing the Interactive version every night, then eventually switching to Listening mode, I created a level of success I’m happy with. I got to the point that I was sleeping well all the time.”
And it’s easy to get comfortable there.
“As disciplined as I like to think I am, everyone needs cues to maintain their successful routine. For me, that’s listening to Dr. Spiegel in the Improve Sleep exercise.”
What advice would you give to others who want to achieve a successful sleep routine?
“Give it time. Go into it with an open mind and give it a chance. Changing something that is engrained is going to take time and effort,” Adam advises wisely.
“The effort in this case is minimal, but the benefits are huge.”
Adam says it also helped him to educate himself about the scientific research on hypnosis.
Have you explored other Reveri exercises?
“Not really! I only use Improve Sleep and some of the Quick Relief sessions,” Adam says. “Even though the sessions aren’t very long, rarely do I have 8-10 minutes during the day to stop what I’m doing and complete a self-hypnosis exercise. When I’m lying in bed is when I have the most free time in my day, when I won’t be interrupted by anyone. The Quick Relief sessions are good, because they are just 1-2 minutes long. The brevity of Reveri is really beneficial for someone with a busy lifestyle like myself.”
What has Reveri enabled you to do?
“It sounds too simple, but sleep!”
One thing all of humanity has in common is sleep. We know it’s foundational to everything in our waking lives. Adam reflects that Reveri has helped him establish a good circadian rhythm. He’s ready to go to bed at the same time every night, and he’s ready to wake up at the same time every morning.
“I wake up refreshed and I’m able to move along with my day comfortably. I no longer have those nights when I’m kept up by my thoughts. Reveri alleviated me of all of that.” He’s able to be present with his children, perform well at work, and be the person he is meant to be.
Reveri exists to help people do just that. To reach their potential, become the optimal versions of themselves, and achieve their goals.
Just like Adam, we are all better versions of ourselves when we are sleeping well.
